The most impressive pavilion should undoubtedly be the China Pavilion in Expo Shanghai 2010, which shapes as an “ancient oriental crown” in red, matched by the red floors around. All these floors are wood-like and with wood-grain. However, actually all these floor boards are made by wood-plastic environmental friendliness material, instead of the natural wood.

The wood plastic composite decking is made by wood sawdust and plastic with a proportion about 1:1, which takes the water-proof and anticorrosive character of the plastic, and also the wood-like character of wood. It has been widely used in the outdoor gardening and riverside infrastructure, whose lifetime is 3 to 10 times of natural wood. Meanwhile, color of the wood-plastic can be adjusted either. For the Shanghai Expo China Pavilion, red was used to show the culture of china, standing for grandeur.

The main components of the wood plastic composite decking are plastic (thermoplastic materials such as PP, PE, PVC, etc.) and natural fiber ( such as wood sawdust, peanut shells, coconut shell, flax, straw and so on). Wood fiber is usually from the scraps, without any wood robbing from the forest. Compared with the traditional natural wood, the most impressive advantage for the wood-fiber is the contribution to the environment, which saves a lot of wood. It is very environmental friendly and there is no need for the painting. Thus the painting pollution can be avoided either. Even if it has to be taken as scrap after years of use, it can be recycled either. The water-absorbing ability of the wood-plastic is lower than wood, and it is acid rain, seawater eroding resisting, anti-moth-eaten as well as rat-bite, which prolongs the lifetime to be 3 to 10 times of the normal wood.
